How to Add More Tabs to Google Personalized Homepage
Google September 15th, 2006 - By HaochiWith the released of the Tabs feature in Google Personalized Homepage, the Blogosphere was all buzzing about it. However, after you have created 6 tabs, Google will not let you create more. I don’t need that much tabs, one is enough for me, but I figured out some of you guys would like to have more, and here’s how you do it.
Copy & Paste to the address bar, while you are on Google Personalized Homepage, then press enter.
javascript:_renameTab(); _dlsetp('at=')
With in the _dlsetp function, you can add the name you want after “at=”, but remember to escape the characters. For what I know so far … You can create up to … infinite tabs, and it will work even after you sign out, or in a different browser.
UPDATE on Dec 20, 2007: Looks like this trick is no longer working Working well.

very help thank you man

It would be nice if you could set up a different list of bookmarks for each tab. From what I see if you put bookmarks in each tab they are simply replicated and cannot be individual for each tab

it’s cool …..
October 5th, 2006 at 10:11 am
Yeah - each tab just comes out the same to me - what’s the point of that? I now have 3 identical tabs - I delete on one and it delets on the other 2!
Am I doing something wrong?
Much better if you could drag and drop individual items into each tab.
October 5th, 2006 at 7:09 pm
Yes you can… Just drap & drop the item over the tab, that’s it.
October 18th, 2006 at 7:09 am
I’ve tried that - and just don’t seem to be able to get it to do anything?
October 18th, 2006 at 7:11 am
I try and drag and drop and just get the usual circle with a line through it meaning you can’t do this
November 11th, 2006 at 1:02 am
Is there a way to get the tabs to move to a second line once the tabs have reached the end of the page?
November 11th, 2006 at 9:54 am
Not that I know of.
December 20th, 2006 at 12:26 pm
No longer work, tried it over 6 and it just goes back to homepage.

This is a great hack! Thanks! Now all I need is a way to reorder tabs. Any ideas? Of course now that I can make extra tabs I can of course make a blank tab to move widgets around but it would be great if I could simply re-order them.
January 11th, 2007 at 2:04 pm
No idea…
January 12th, 2007 at 11:59 am
i guess i don’t understand javascript.
do i paste the WHOLE thing starting with javascript?
do i put the title of the tab the equals sign or the apostrophe (’at=’)?
what type of escape character? yes i followed the link, no i don’t understand it.

Thank you, thank you for the hack. Not to be a chooser beggar, but I do have an extra little challenge for you to consider. Google added the option of selecting “Get Lucky” when a tab is added to automatically populate a tab using the name one gives it as a search. It’s kind of fun to play with. Is there anyway to add this option to your hack for adding a tab? Thanks, BenM

April 18th, 2007 at 5:51 am
Is this feature still working? I tried on both firefox and IE and no results..
April 19th, 2007 at 2:24 am
Yep, it still works rady, I just tried it today (after learning that Google has added a new feature. If you add a new tab and title it “Recommendations” with the “I’m Feeling Lucky” feature enabled, it will add reccomended searches and the likes. Kinda like “stumble-upon” from Google”
Just copy/paste the entire line below in your address bar:

Yes, it worked right after i posted the comment.. named the tab Photos and left the lucky box checked and it added some cool stuff.
However, it doesn’t seem to work at all on Firefox..
The only thing i don’t like is that you cannot switch the tabs between them if you want to :)

Thank You

Nope, not working here either on Firefox 2.0.0.4

Cool I just got thit to work. In reponse to the person wanting to add different bookmarks to each tab. I found a work around. I set up my main bookmarks with several categories that match most of my tabs. I then add the google bookmarks gadget to each tab and use the drop down to match up my google tab to my bookmarks category. For me at least the bookmarks stay at the last category you used within each tab. Hope that works for you.

I just checked all my tabs in Firefox 2.0.0.4 and they work fine. It also let me add a new tab while I was in there. I used the link talked about above.

Really cool! Reached a point where I can’t drop and drag a module from one tab to another (which worked before). Maybe I exceeded some limit. Anyone else experience this?
April 17th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
Its worked - I have used this hack for over 6 months.
marvelous

Nothing seems important. I’ve just been sitting around waiting for something to happen. What can I say? It’s not important. I guess it doesn’t bother me. My life’s been basically dull.,
