The orkut Blog just announced that they are rolling out a brand new look for the always-look-the-same social network.

Today we’re announcing our latest improvement to the site: an updated look! Just as you change your profile picture to keep with the times, we’re updating the look of orkut. The change isn’t live yet, but starting soon, we will start rolling-out the new look. To start, we will roll it out to a small group of users randomly selected, and will continue to do so until everyone is on the new site.

The new update might revive orkut’s popularity in the U.S. to compete with social network giants like MySpace and Facebook. However, if they are not updating the site with Socialstream or something even cooler, I believe I (and many others) will lose hope in orkut.

UPDATE: Updated post with screen shot from Info-mundo.net (CC-license). The update is definitely not the kind that I was hoping for (although they made very clear that it’s going to be new UI only). I am looking killer features. :)
