Google Rebang = Google Zeitgeist for Chinese
Google February 27th, 2007 - By HaochiKen Wang of GSeeker, a popular Chinese blog on Google, found that a recent entry on Google’s robots.txt file, /rebang, is probably a modified version of Google Zeitgeist, in Chinese.
ReBang, for my knowledge of Chinese, can be translate as Hot Ranking, ehh, not a good translation, but you get the idea. Ranking the hot, popular stuff, that’s what Google Zeitgeist is doing.
From the screen shot, I can see that the page is divided into many sections, displaying the top queries in different categories. Some of the categories are Computer Games, Computer Softwares, TV Shows, Online Novel, Music, Movie, and Celebrities, of course.
The top “Hot Search Keyword” is Baidu, Google’s rival in China, what an irony! LOL
note: the site is currently not working for me, in the U.S., if it works for your (try this page too), send us some screen shots at contact@this.site’s.domain. :)
UPDATE: Justin from Singapore email me says that the site “works one out 5 attempts on average” for him, and the other four attempts, he gets 404. Not in my case - 0% successfull rate. Thanks Justin. :)
