The YouTube Blog today announced the expansion of their Partner Program to more (qualifying) YouTube users. The YouTube Partner Program allows “independent video creators and media companies” to have a share of the advertising revenue generated from their videos hosted on YouTube.

Who qualifies for partnership?

  • You create original videos suitable for online streaming.
  • You own the copyrights and distribution rights for all audio and video content that you upload — no exceptions.
  • You regularly upload videos that are viewed by thousands of YouTube users.
  • You live in the United States or Canada.

If you think you meet all the criteria above and feel like earning a few extra dollars from YouTube, you can apply for the program here.

It would be interesting to know much one can make through the Partner Program (e.g. the average earning per thousand video views) because the last time I check, Google’s AdSense for Maps API didn’t worked out really well on a popular site (over 230K page impressions with only $0.33 earnings).
