Google has officially announced that they have acquired San Francisco based in-game advertising company Adscape, as we have previously speculated.

From the FAQ page

  • Will the in-game ads continue to be integrated into the game or will they become text ads similar to AdSense format? - As this is a recent acquisition it is too early to say what the ads will look like. We will explore a variety of options to determine what is best for the advertiser and user.

In game advertising market is expected to reach $4.4 billion by 2010, according to a 2006 research by Parks Associates. Google surely wants a piece of that - so do I. :)

Google to Buy AdScape for $23 Million?

Red Herring reports that Google and AdScape came up with an agreement for the acquisition that has been rumoring around for about month. The deal would cost Google $23 million, says a person familiar with the matter.

Whatever happens, it has a little to do with me. (Not a big fan of gaming)

There’s been some talks today about Google to acquire the San Francisco based Adscape Media, an in-game advertising company that sells dynamic and static ad-units on PC, mobile, and console games.

The total market spending on in-game advertising will reach more than $700 million by 2010, up from $56, according to a Yankee Group study. Sure Google wants to grab a piece of that, as well as from newspaper and radio advertising. :)
