New Google Code

Code

google code redesign

Google Code just got a makeover. Their list of APIs and other projects grew so huge that they need to display them in different categories. From the Google Code’s front page you can find links to APIs and various Google projects, featured blog and community news, and talks that are hosted on YouTube.

Google Developer Programs’ DeWitt Clinton put it well, “But the best thing about Google Code hasn’t changed: And that’s you, the developer, our never-ending source of inspiration.”

Google Gadget Directory got a new design as well.

Like to build stuff surrounding Google’s API and like to listen to podcasts? You have got luck, the Google Code Blog today started their own podcast - the Google Developer Podcast.

The Google Developer Podcast covers,

  • Interviews with Google engineers, discussing areas of their expertise
  • New features, applications, and APIs that matter to developers
  • Open source projects that we work on and/or care about at Google
  • Projects that use our APIs and applications in interesting ways
  • News and events that we all care about, including the Google Summer of Code.

The first podcast is an interview with Bob Lee, developer of open source project Guice. You can download it here and subscribe to its feed here. You can discuss the podcast with others on their Google Groups forum.

If I want to do a podcast, what you think I should talk about?

Google Code Updates

Code, Maps

KML and GeoRSS Support Added to the Google Maps API - Google Maps API Blog

To start we now support GeoRSS as a data format for geographic content in Google Maps. We want to enable users to create data in whatever format is most convenient for them, and feel that by supporting both KML and GeoRSS we can enable a wider variety of people and applications to contribute content to Google Maps.

Joining the OpenAjax Alliance - Google Code Blog

We’re excited to announce that Google recently joined the OpenAjax Alliance, an organization formed to promote open standards and interoperability for AJAX applications.

New Open Source Utility Library for the Google Maps API - Google Maps API Blog

The Google Maps API Team is excited to announce our new open source project, the GMaps Utility Library. This project will be hosted on code.google.com and will let the Google engineers for the Maps API work hand-in-hand with the many great developers in the Maps API community.
