Google Announced First Quarter Results, Stock Surges

Finance

google at 539

Google announced their earnings for the first quarter of 2008. The reported revenues of $5.19 billion beat most analysts’ expectation. The stock jumped 20% during today’s trade to $539.41 - the “largest one-day gain” for the Google stock.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Yahoo! is “moving “closer to outsourcing its search advertising to Google”, after a successful test run of AdSense for Search on its site. I think that if Yahoo!’s really doing this, then the two companies will be interdependent on each other and eventually merge. It’s not a bad thing, but people are tired of monopolies.

GOOG Hits 52-Week Low

Finance

google 52 week low

Continuing with the months-long depression, GOOG today hit a new 52-week low, at $413.04, and keep plunging in after hours trade. This is also the lowest since October 2006. It wasn’t that long ago when GOOG set its record high at $747 last December.

My math tells me $100+ billion has been flush down the toilet. Not really true, but close enough.

Google to Launch Google Finance Canada

Finance

Google is set to launch the Canadian version of Google Finance next Tuesday, they “slipped” the words too soon on their blog, as Garett Rogers put it. Google edited the post soon after it was published with, “Oops. We hit the button too soon. Watch for news about Google Finance in Canada next Tuesday.”

Thanks for the beauty of the Internet, we can still recover the original text,

We’re pleased to introduce Google Finance Canada, a localized version of Google Finance tailored specifically, as you might guess, for Canadian investors. Canadians are the second largest group of Google Finance users, and as a Canadian myself, I’m excited to see Canadian financial information presented in the familiar easy to use Google Finance format. This new edition includes:

  • Top financial news from Canadian sources
  • Search with a preference for Canadian companies
  • Front-page high level economic data from the Bank of Canada
  • Portfolios in Canadian currency (or the currency of your choice)
  • Equity data from the Toronto Stock Exchange, TSX Venture Exchange, and Canadian mutual funds

In addition, stock quotes and charts for Canadian-listed companies are now available through the Google.com web search.

The Canadian version will likely to be located at http://finance.google.ca, which is currently redirecting to Google Finance.

Google Q2 2007: Not So Impressive

google second quarter 2007 financial result

Google today announced their financial results for the second quarter of 2007 that’s with $3.87 billion in revenue. Wow, a lot of money - to me, but that didn’t impress the Wall Street bankers/investors despite the mere 6% increase comparing to the last quarter.
