Googler: Google Reduced My Lifespan

Googler

blackberry

Noogler Luis Sigal complains in his blog post, “Google is evil: they’ve reduced my lifespan“:

I’ve been given a Blackberry, so I may now read my mails while walking. The problem is that I may get distracted while crossing a street, forgetting to look up. So my lifespan has been reduced by 2.4 years now, due to the risk of a car accident.

Lol. :D

Another Googler Leaves Google

Googler

pedram keyani

Yet another Googler leaves Google.

Pedram “Gangsta-programma” Keyani, an Orkut engineer, resigned from Google last Friday.

On Friday July 13th, 2007 I resigned from Google in search of new challenges and risks. This was a hard decision to come to and I have been seriously thinking about it for the last few months. In the end I decided (with support from my wife) that I am at the point in my career where I can make risky decisions. I am young enough that I can jump off the ledge and not worry about landing on my feet or my head because either way I have time to pick myself up and try again.

July 13th, that’s a day after Jason Shellen announced that he will be leaving Google.

I sense something.

Well, good luck.

*By the way, doesn’t he look familiar to you? :)

Jason Shellen Leaves Google

Jason Shellen, who joined Google back in 2003 when Google acquired Blogger. During the 4.5 years there, he worked on numerous projects, notably Google Reader. He also became the New Business Development Manager there.

Today he announced that he will be leaving Google: (Googler–)

I feel I’ve got that entrepreneurial/start-up bug deep within me and I can’t help but think about the next thing. I’m going to take a little time off while I think about what is next (hopefully while surfing and riding my bike in Santa Cruz) but I’ve decided to leave Google.

The above “infographic” created by Jason shows some of the things took place during his time at Google.

Good luck. :)

Google and the Wojcickis

Googler

susan wojcicki

You probably already heard of the fairy tale that Susan Wojcicki rented her garage to the Google founders and helped found Google Inc., but did you know that Susan also…

  • Introduced Sergey Brin to future wife Anne Wojcicki, Susan Wojocicki’s younger sister
  • Referred multiple family members to work at Google: “Susan Wojcicki’s husband, Dennis Troper, is an operations executive at Google. Brother-in-law Gregor (married to middle sister Janet) is a former Googler who worked in the finance department. Mom Esther Wojcicki, a teacher, has consulted for Google on educational issues.” [USAToday]

On a (kind of) related note, Google cuts Founders’ Awards.

Flash developer and book author Geoff Stearns accepted a job offer at Google last month and now he is a Noogler! In the blog post, he said that he will be mainly working with the YouTube team.

My sixth sense tells me that his mission is to improve the YouTube player.

dustin diaz joins google

CSS Naked Day founder and ex-Yahoo employee, Dustin Diaz announced on his blog that he is “no longer unemployed and landed at an all-time favorite company” - Google.

My Role at Google will delve heavily into prototyping rich UI’s as a User Interface Engineer within the User Experience group.

My goal at Google is to ultimately fall in love again with the reason I got into web development in the first place. I am passionate about what I do, and I am positive that Google is going to be a place that will allow me to do just that. To me Google is a place where innovative ideas are fostered, and you’re constantly surrounded by intelligent people to make those ideas better. [Landing at the Plex]

Congratulations!

Also, a belated Happy Googleversary to Googler Adam Lasnik.

Google Interview Tips

Googler, Tips

googlers

Googler Mike Knell offers some Google interviewing tips for all you future Googlers out there. Yeah, I am pointing at you, the future Googler. :)

  • Don’t worry too much about what the wear
  • Don’t be arrogant or cocky
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for a break or reschedule
  • Do be nice to everyone, especially to the recruiting coordinator
  • Do theorize and hypothesize and think aloud
  • Do come up with interesting questions (but not “How many servers do you guys have exactly, anyway?”)
  • Do poke your recruiter gently for an update if you haven’t heard anything after a week or so

Just relax, whatever happens, happens.
