Google Image Search Offers Suggestions

google images search also try

Google Image Search now has a feature that offers suggestion related to your query. Pretty much like the “related searches” feature. For example, when search for “United Kingdom“, the new feature will suggest you to also try “United Kingdom flag”.

Yahoo’s Image Search engine already equipped with this feature since 2005:

While an accurate mind-reading machine is still a vision for the utopian future, search for “simpson” and our Also Try engine will make its best guess at what you are likely searching for. In this case, the engine detects that a top phrase related to the query is “Jessica Simpson,” and offers this as the first “refinement” proposal.

Guess what suggestion you will get for search “Finnish“? :)

Google Images: Search for Extra Large Images

google images search extra large

Google Images Search now has an extra option that allows users to search for “extra large images”, compare to only large, medium and small previously. The extra large images are several thousand pixels each dimension.

Given that the high resolution digital cameras available today at relatively low prices and with all these hi-res images on the Web, it is not a surprise to see Google to make this move.

Well, I am still stuck with the little digital camera that I bought when I was in middle school… What the heck… :D

Images Search Experiments with AdWords

images search with adwords

Looks like Google is still experimenting with AdWords ads on Images Search that I spotted last month. It’s probably a good thing if those ads “lead you to photo-related sites”, rather than ads for Paris hotel when search for “Paris, France“, as Ionut suggested.

I don’t think “Buy Paris on eBay” would be a good ad either. Well, nobody like She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named anyways. :)

The Search of Faces on Google Images

Images

Google Images search has a new feature that allows you to restrict results to faces and news related images only. To restrict images to faces only, you will only need to add &imgtype=face at the end the original URL, like-wise, adding &imgtype=news will restrict to news related images from websites of online news agencies.

You can compare the query “Google” in the three different situations here:

Normal || Restricted to face || Restricted to news

Google probably employed the technology of Neven Vision that they acquired last year, but didn’t they said that it’s to improve Picasa? Either way, the result benefits us, the users. :)
