Apple and YouTube Alliance

In addition of having the ability to play movies, TV shows, music, photos, and podcasts, the Apple TV will soon to have another superman power - search and play YouTube videos on your big screen.

Coming in June, you can watch YouTube videos in a whole new way — on the big screen. Enjoy thousands of free videos, including the top featured, most viewed, and top rated. New content will be added every day and the entire YouTube catalog will be available by the fall, so there’ll always be something cool to see.

Can’t wait to June? Connect your computer to your TV. I have been enjoying YouTube videos on my TV for so long that I can’t even remember how long it’s been! :)

[thanks Christian for reminding me. :)]

YouTube to Have Ads in Videos

TV, YouTube

According to Red Herring, YouTube will be inserting TV-like ads within the videos of “more than 1,000 premium content creators”, as soon as this summer. They are currently experimenting with the “precise length, form, and placement of those ads”, YouTube’s head of advertising Suzie Reider said.

It seems like that YouTube is trying to rival with the billion dollars TV market, but not to “recreate the TV model”.

I don’t think the ads would bother me, for two reasons:

  1. Google will only place the ads on “premium content creators”, so it would be really rare that I will see any of them
  2. If the clip is long enough for Google to put the ads, I can rest my eyes during the commercial time! :)

Looks like this is how YouTube will be sharing revenue with their ‘premium content creators’.

On a related note, YouTube got a Film Editor, Sara, and the YouTube Blog’s got a new design, with comments enabled for YouTube users.

Google TV Ads Trial

AdSense, AdWords, TV

Google announced Google TV Ads Trial last night and said that they have been working with EchoStar (owner of DISH Network) and Astound Cable for sometimes now to “deliver better ads to viewers and help advertisers, operators and programmers more efficiently buy, schedule, deliver and measure ads on television”.

Deliver more relevant ads to viewers and provide better reporting for advertisers

Advances in set-top-box technologies make it possible to report aggregate statistics on how many times an ad was viewed and whether it was watched through to the end. As part of this trial, we will be working with partners to use aggregate, anonymized set-top-box metrics to deliver timely and accurate viewing reports. Advertisers can use this data to understand the effectiveness of their TV ad campaigns and use this information to provide more relevant ads to viewers.

Just like other Google Advertising platforms, advertisers can buy TV ads using the auction model online.
