google domain

Google Apps for Your Domain is partnering up with GoDaddy and eNom to offer users domain registration “because it’s a lot easier to set up a Google Apps for Your Domain account this way”. If you own a domain elsewhere, you can still use it for GAFYD. Google currently supports .com, .org, .net, .info, and .biz, but expect to have more in the future. Each domain costs $10 a year, which is a little higher than many popular domain registrars out there, including GoDaddy. Users will be using Google Checkout to pay the fee. Here are some benefits…

  • Private domain registration to protect against spam at no extra cost
  • Full DNS control and domain management
  • Automatically configured to work with Google services
  • Email, calendar, instant messaging, web pages and more also at no extra charge

I am wondering why would Google partner up with other domain registrars, since Google itself is a ICANN-accredited registrar of domain names since 2005.
