Doodle: Yom Ha’atzmaut
Doodle May 8th, 2008 - By HaochiGoogle Israel today celebrates the 60th anniversary of independence. (You can see 60 replacing “oo” behind the flag.)
Yom Ha’atzmaut is the national Israeli independence day, commemorating the declaration of independence of Israel in 1948. It falls on the 5th of the Jewish lunar month Iyar celebrating the declaration of the state of Israel by David Ben-Gurion in Tel Aviv on May 14, 1948, and the end of the British Mandate of Palestine. Now talk about being controversial.

Nothing controversial about claiming independence from the British in 1948 with approval by the UN. Afterwards this became an issue for some. But they expected the British empire to rule in the whole region forever. That’s why Israel is proud of independence while other cultures rather not have it. It comes with responsibility.
