Gmail Status Group
Gmail March 3rd, 2007 - By Haochi
Google has created a sub-group under Gmail Help Discussion in Google Groups - Gmail Updates and Alerts.
“The purpose of this sub-group is to provide you with valuable information regarding technical issues that Gmail may be experiencing.” the Gmail Alerts Manager described in the introduction post.
My sixth sense tells me that this groups is created because of the recent Gmail outage and, of course, its long history of instability.
To keep yourself “accurate and up-to-date information” on Gmail’s status, subscribe one of these feeds for the Google Status Group with a feed reader, not Google Alerts.

Why not use Google Alerts, but Google Reader?

Consider that your email (Gmail) is not working, and Google Alerts sends you the “up-to-date” information, how are you going to check it? On the other hand, you can check it on Google Reader even if Gmail is down, and Google Reader is, seems to me, has more uptime.
