google acquired adscape

Google has officially announced that they have acquired San Francisco based in-game advertising company Adscape, as we have previously speculated.

From the FAQ page…

  • Why did Google acquire Adscape Media? - In-game advertising is an area where we believe Google could add a lot of value to users, advertisers and publishers. …
  • Will the in-game ads continue to be integrated into the game or will they become text ads similar to AdSense format? - As this is a recent acquisition it is too early to say what the ads will look like. We will explore a variety of options to determine what is best for the advertiser and user.

In game advertising market is expected to reach $4.4 billion by 2010, according to a 2006 research by Parks Associates. Google surely wants a piece of that - so do I. :)
