Google Dogfood
Apps, Image of the Day July 24th, 2007 - By HaochiI am not quite sure what exactly is the Google Dogfood, are they referring to the Google Apps or an internal program. Anyone?
As for the launch date in the picture, the closest would be Google Docs & Spreadsheets, which launched on October 11th, 2006.

It’s basically any Google application which Google uses actually itself. Here’s the concept mentioned on the Blogger Buzz blog:

And briefly mentioned here on the Google Enterprise blog:

(Eric often refers to this concept when talking about Gmail, Google Docs, etc.)

(Sorry, my English sounds atrocious in that last comment. I meant to say, “It’s basically any Google application which Google actually uses itself.”)

wow, that was blogged fast. That was taken at Google Kirkland while I was there for a talk by Vint Cerf. Myself and the people I was with didn’t know what it was either, so thanks for looking up the dates.

Google Dogfood was the marketing name for Google’s use of their own applications in their corporate environment. The icon in the picture is was apps were first switched over (Gmail, Talk, Calendar). Essentially Google became one of the first companies to use all of these applications for their own day to day use. So by eating their own ‘dogfood’ they knew what it took to migrate to these services and use them for everyday use inside a large corporation.

Silly me, I had a post on the Google Dogfood last year… I was thinking Google Dogfood as a single service, not a concept/marketing name.
Thank you everyone. :)
