Google Phone Announced
Phone November 5th, 2007 - By Haochi![]()
I can’t believe that this is coming for real, but Google just officially announced their plan to invade the mobile phone operating system market with Android. Google, along with “more than 30 technology and mobile leaders including Motorola, Qualcomm, HTC and T-Mobile” formed the Open Handset Alliance to develop and promote the Android Platform.
As I said earlier, the system is based on Linux and that it will be open source under the Apache v2 license. Also, it will support third party applications with a SDK, which will be available on November 12 - but the phones deploying Android won’t be commercially available until the second half of 2008.
[Android allows applications to] call upon any of the phone’s core functionality such as making calls, sending text messages, or using the camera, allowing developers to create richer and more cohesive experiences for users.
What’s up with the logo?
