How To Root Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-i9505

Undoubtedly, Samsung Galaxy S4 is the most powerful phone in the market at the moment. With its super gorgeous AMOLED screen and super sweet sleek lines, S4 is a total eye grabber. And now since we have this beast in our hand, why not unleash its full potential! When we talk about unlocking an android phone or gaining complete access over your android phone, we mean to root it. Rooting gives you much more control over your device enabling you to:

  • Customize your phone upto a whole new level
  • Upgrading and downgrading your firmware as per your requirement
  • Remove unwanted software that come with the phone

Before we start the Rooting process, there are some cautions and warning that I would like to tell you. Rooting a phone involves making changes in the official firmware so that you can have access to the Super-User mode. Making these changes:

  • Will end any guarantee or warranty you might have
  • And if you do not exercise enough caution, you might end up with a bricked phone.

The following guide works with the GT-i9505 which runs on a Snapdragon 600 chipset and NOT the octo-core variant. This guide will also NOT work with the S4 models with baseband ending in MDM. To find the baseband of your phone, go to Setting >> More >> About Phone. The guide works with Windows 7 ONLY.

Just to make things sure, here is a checklist again:

  • You have a GT-i9505 with Snapdragon 600. Others will not work.
  • The baseband of your phone does not end in MDM
  • You are running Windows 7
  • Enough talking, I can’t wait to root my phone!

PS: Neither me nor anyone else on this site will be held responsible for any damage that your phone might suffer because of the following process. While regular Android veterans never have a problem with rooting, I would recommend you to take caution and not to skip any step.

  • Create a Back-up

Although not a part of the Rooting process but is always preferred. We do not want you to lose any sensitive data that you might have in your phone. After you have backed up your phone, proceed to the next step.

  • Get Motochopper

This beautiful piece of application was designed and programed for Motorola devices but works like a charm with almost all the devices based on Qualcomm Technology. Click here to download and unzip the package preferably on your desktop for easy browsing while rooting.

  • Let’s Start Debugging

Now, we must enable the developer menu. To do so, go to Settings >> More >> About Phone and tap the Build Number 7 times. This will enable the developer options which you can see under the More sub-menu within Settings. Navigate to these settings and tick the checkbox against the USB Debugging option. Now connect your phone to PC with the help of the USB cable and let windows install the required drivers.

  • Motochopper: FIRE!

In the earlier step, I asked you to extract the Motochopper files from the zip file onto your desktop. Now, browse to the folder where you extracted the files and double-click the RUN file. Please note that there are 2 files named as RUN in the folder. You must run the one that says Windows Batch File. As soon as you click it, you will be shown a black window with lots of things written in it.

  • Let The Gods Unleash The Beast

I know the title is way too dramatic and so will be the performance of your phone once you finish the rooting process. Follow the simple instructions on screen and press Enter key on your keyboard to start the rooting process. Simultaneously you will be shown a message on the phone screen. Simply tap OK to start the rooting process. Once the process is complete, you will be prompted to press the Enter button one more time. As you press the Enter button, your Galaxy S4 will be rebooted.

Let the phone reboot calmly and once it is ready, check your app drawer. Keep browsing through the icons and you will see the so-much-powerful Super User icon on the screen. Congratulation, You have successfully rooted your phone.
