How To Transform Your Phone With Themer

How To Transform Your Phone With Themer

Most Android users will already be very familiar with launchers. These apps replace the home screen and app drawer on your phone and present the simplest way of customising a device or of removing (or at least hiding) a manufacturer’s custom skin. A brand new launcher, Themer, takes the customisation angle to its logical, and beautiful, extreme. Themer comes packed with stylish home screen replacements that transform the look of a phone into any number of styles.

Themer removes much of Android’s widget support, but provides the key services such as weather, image galleries and RSS feeds. At the time of writing, Themer was still in beta, and you need to sign up at themerapp.com for a registration code. It will, in due course, be released for free in the Play store.

  • Customise Your Themer Experience

There are many settings that you can adjust to tailor your theme to best suit how you use your phone. Here’s our guide to the key settings…

  • Browse Themes

Swipe the sidebar open and select Browse Themes to view the latest and most popular themes in the app. Tap one for a preview, and swipe left and right to see all its panes. Hit Apply to make it your home screen.

  • Settings

Back in the sidebar, choose Settings>Themer. Here you can choose your default apps for web, gallery, weather and so on, as well as picking RSS feeds (including being able to import feeds directly from Feedly).

  • Get Advanced

Under Advanced Settings you can take greater control over your theme, including selecting the number of home screen panels and whether to show the dock. Be aware that the effect can differ between themes.

Feature:

  • Status Bar

The status bar is hidden on many themes, but a swipe downwards will reveal it. Another swipe will then open the notification shade just as it does on any Android device. A swipe upwards will hide the status bar again.

  • Add Panels

Long press on the home screen and you can add extra panels. They won’t match the theme on the other panels, but can be used to install important widgets. To add a widget go to the app drawer, select Widgets and drag them in as normal.

  • Find A Theme

Themer’s themes are radically different to your stock Android experience, or indeed any other phone. You will need to take your time to experiment with several in order to find one you are happy with.

  • Crucial Info

All themes include the core elements that most users will need. This includes weather information and music controls. Third-party apps, such as Spotify, are supported. Some themes also include RSS feeds with regularly updated news headlines.

  • Gesture Friendly

Themer fully supports a range of customisable gestures. Go to Settings>Themer and you can set up controls for one and two-finger swipes, plus a handy double-tap gesture. These are excellent options for power users in particular.

How To Root Evo HTC 4G and Flash a Custom ROM

How To Root Evo HTC 4G and Flash a Custom ROM

Evo 4G is one of the best seller by HTC which was launched in the year 2010. This smartphone was special because it was one of the initial phones that could run on the 4G network and surprisingly, Evo 4G is still considered the best 4G capable phone till date.

Powered by the Sprint WiMax network, this phone has a big bright screen which provides a movie experience which is simply unbeatable. Apart from this, the phone also provides a very rich video calling experience using a 1.4 megapixel front camera (and an impressive 8 MP camera at the back) all within a price range of more $200.

To gain extra control over this beauty and customize every inch of it, we need to Root it. Rooting will not only provide you freedom to play with advanced settings including the ones related to CPU, it will also allow you to install/flash custom ROMs. But before you root, you should know a couple of things that are very important:

  • It will void any official gaurantee or warranty you may have with your phone.
  • If done wrongly, you may end up with a bricked (dead) phone.
  • Lets waste no more time and harness the power of the 4G device.

The process will be successful only with HBOOT 2.18. Make sure you have the same on your phone. If not, we will be writing another tutorial for the other versions soon.

  • The First Step

The first and foremost step is to create a backup of all the important data in your phone. This will make sure that if something goes wrong in the process, you will still have all your data safe with you.

  • Gather The Tools

The first step is to get the Bootloader from the HTCDev. Proceed to HTCDev website and from the drop list on right, select the last option that says ‘Other Supported Models’. We also need the root package for HTC Evo G4 which can be found easily through a Google search.

  • Launching Flying Monkeys

Following are the most important steps. Please read closely and do not skip any step.

  • Extract the root package downloaded in the last in a folder on the desktop. There should be a fastboot.exe file on the desktop.
  • Now switch off your cell phone and start it by pressing the down volume key+power button together. This will open the bootloader mode. From this menu, select the fast boot option.
  • Now connect your phone to the computer using the USB cable.

Now run the command window on your computer. Press Windows Button + R to open the run dialog (or navigate to Start Button >> Run). Write CMD and press enter to see the command prompt.

  • On the command prompe, enter the following command:
  • fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-supersonic-v2.3.img
  • Wait whilea custom recovery ROM is flashed on your device.

Now on the device, select the bootloader option using the Power Button. From the options on the screen, select the recovery option. Now select USB-MS Toggle.

Above step will make your device behave like a disk drive on your computer. Transfer the CWM-SuperSU-v0.87.zip file you extracted from the package to the root folder of the SD-Card.

  • From the recovery menu, select flash Zip from SD card and then select Choose Zip from SD Card.
  • Browse to the file we just moved on the SD-Card.
  • Reboot the phone to finish the Rooting process.
  • As soon as the phone boots up, open your app drawer to see the Super User icon and enhance your experience.
  • How To Flash a Custom ROM on HTC Evo 4G
  • Since we have already Rooted our phone and have the super user status, lets flash a custom ROM and change the experience of using our Evo 4G.
  • To start we need to find a custom ROM which can be easily downloaded from the internet (use Google) and ROM Manager Application which can be downloaded and installed from Play Store.

After you have both the above things, attach your phone to computer and transfer the downloaded ROM to your phone. Once done, remove your phone from USB run the Rom Manager App in the phone.

Follow the process below to flash a custom Rom.

  1. Reboot in recovery mode using the rom manager app.
  2. Select back and recovery form the menu displayed after the phone reboots.
  3. Now backup your existing system by selecting backup. Wait for the phone to complete the backup process. It will take 5-10 minutes to complete. Once done, proceed to next step.
  4. Now navigate to Wipe Data/Factory Reset.
  5. Select flash from SD Card and navigate to new rom we copied to the device.
  6. Wait for the flashing process to finish. After the flashing is complete, the phone will reboot.
  7. And that is how you can flash a custom rom on your Evo 4D.

Please note that when you run a new rom, the phone needs time to adjust the settings the first time it reboots and hence feels a bit laggy and slow. Do not start judging the rom on the first restart itself. You can flash any custom rom on evo 4g using the same process again and again.

How To Root Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-i9505

How To Root Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-i9505

Undoubtedly, Samsung Galaxy S4 is the most powerful phone in the market at the moment. With its super gorgeous AMOLED screen and super sweet sleek lines, S4 is a total eye grabber. And now since we have this beast in our hand, why not unleash its full potential! When we talk about unlocking an android phone or gaining complete access over your android phone, we mean to root it. Rooting gives you much more control over your device enabling you to:

  • Customize your phone upto a whole new level
  • Upgrading and downgrading your firmware as per your requirement
  • Remove unwanted software that come with the phone

Before we start the Rooting process, there are some cautions and warning that I would like to tell you. Rooting a phone involves making changes in the official firmware so that you can have access to the Super-User mode. Making these changes:

  • Will end any guarantee or warranty you might have
  • And if you do not exercise enough caution, you might end up with a bricked phone.

The following guide works with the GT-i9505 which runs on a Snapdragon 600 chipset and NOT the octo-core variant. This guide will also NOT work with the S4 models with baseband ending in MDM. To find the baseband of your phone, go to Setting >> More >> About Phone. The guide works with Windows 7 ONLY.

Just to make things sure, here is a checklist again:

  • You have a GT-i9505 with Snapdragon 600. Others will not work.
  • The baseband of your phone does not end in MDM
  • You are running Windows 7
  • Enough talking, I can’t wait to root my phone!

PS: Neither me nor anyone else on this site will be held responsible for any damage that your phone might suffer because of the following process. While regular Android veterans never have a problem with rooting, I would recommend you to take caution and not to skip any step.

  • Create a Back-up

Although not a part of the Rooting process but is always preferred. We do not want you to lose any sensitive data that you might have in your phone. After you have backed up your phone, proceed to the next step.

  • Get Motochopper

This beautiful piece of application was designed and programed for Motorola devices but works like a charm with almost all the devices based on Qualcomm Technology. Click here to download and unzip the package preferably on your desktop for easy browsing while rooting.

  • Let’s Start Debugging

Now, we must enable the developer menu. To do so, go to Settings >> More >> About Phone and tap the Build Number 7 times. This will enable the developer options which you can see under the More sub-menu within Settings. Navigate to these settings and tick the checkbox against the USB Debugging option. Now connect your phone to PC with the help of the USB cable and let windows install the required drivers.

  • Motochopper: FIRE!

In the earlier step, I asked you to extract the Motochopper files from the zip file onto your desktop. Now, browse to the folder where you extracted the files and double-click the RUN file. Please note that there are 2 files named as RUN in the folder. You must run the one that says Windows Batch File. As soon as you click it, you will be shown a black window with lots of things written in it.

  • Let The Gods Unleash The Beast

I know the title is way too dramatic and so will be the performance of your phone once you finish the rooting process. Follow the simple instructions on screen and press Enter key on your keyboard to start the rooting process. Simultaneously you will be shown a message on the phone screen. Simply tap OK to start the rooting process. Once the process is complete, you will be prompted to press the Enter button one more time. As you press the Enter button, your Galaxy S4 will be rebooted.

Let the phone reboot calmly and once it is ready, check your app drawer. Keep browsing through the icons and you will see the so-much-powerful Super User icon on the screen. Congratulation, You have successfully rooted your phone.
