Upload Video to Picasa Web Albums
Google October 12th, 2006 - By Haochi
Zmarties from Documenting Picasa let us know that users who upgraded to 6GB can upload videos from Picasa, not to Google Video, but to Picasa Web Albums. I gave it a try(I got 6GB from Google for free), it works pretty well. Here’s a test video that I uploaded. It’s actually uploaded to Google Video, and uses Google Video’s flash player. But Google calls it a “photo”, not a “video”.

If you haven’t noticed, Google removed “TEST” from the Picasa Web Albums’ logo.

It would be unneccessary to upgrade to 6GB just for video uploading… Go Google Video.

I tried with a “3gp” file (video from a mobile phone) and it works :)

That’s odd, Google Video said, “We accept many popular formats, such as AVI, ASF, QuickTime, Windows Media and MPEG formats. For example, .avi, .asf, .mov, .wmv, .mpg, .mpeg, .mp4, .ra, .ram, and .mod are all acceptable file extensions. Please note that we currently do not accept Flash files. Specific video codecs we accept include H.264, H.263, MPEG 1/2/4 and motion JPEG.” Well, I think 3GP is still a “popular” format.

Incidentally, have you found an easy way to turn videos by 90°?

Unfortunately, I can’t. :(

Guys, I found a way to upload video to picasa without upgrading to 6GB. Install Picasa (upload software) on your machine. Open the application, go to File -> Add file to Picasa. add your video to Picasa. Once it is added, right click on the video and click on Upload to Web Album. That’s it.

It’s been a feature since last year… Everyone can upload their video to Picasa Web Albums.

No, you can’t. I have 6GB and I can’t upload videos larger than 100MB. Try Google Video instead.

Folks, I have used the “Windows Movie Maker” in Accessories to rotate video files. There’s a little distortion in some of the results, but it’s better than turning your head or monitor sideways.
