It’s been like forever since YouTube started talking about their video identification tool that will help copyright owners to fight piracy on YouTube. Well, the Official Google Blog just announced that they have launched YouTube Video Identification program.

YouTube Video Identification will help copyright holders identify their works on YouTube. [...] As its Beta status indicates, our Video Identification is brand-new, cutting-edge stuff, so we will be constantly refining and improving it. Early tests with content companies have shown very promising results.

YouTube will notify content owners that are part of the Video ID program when someone uploads their copyrighted contents, and the content owners can then choose “whether to block, promote, or even monetize their videos.”

The program is currently in beta, you can fill out this form if you want to participate.

I don’t understand why Google says that the program’s beta status indicates that it’s cutting-edge. It maybe cutting-edge, but seems to be a little bit contradicting to me.
