Why It’s Important To Keep Your Rifle And Handgun Cleaned
You and four fellow members of the FBI Hostage Rescue Team creep through the thick woods. You are trailing a dangerous felon wanted for multiple criminal charges, including abduction. You know that the man is armed with two Uzis and an AR-15, a real threat. You are moving along cautiously when the team leader stops. Before any of you can even breathe, an eruption of bullets around you kicks pebbles, sticks and dirt sky-high. You all hit the ground as one. Several of your companions jerk and go limp without even a cry. This guy is a crack shot. You and the only other Special Agent who is unhurt roll over and take aim into the bushes at the outline of the shooter. His bullets are still going wide, so he obviously can’t see you. You take a very careful aim. This shot must not miss; otherwise he will know where you are. BANG! As you pull the trigger, the Glock 22 explodes in your hand. The force throws you backwards, but fortunately doesn’t kill you. Arrrgh, you meant to clean the gun after you last used it. And now the felon will kill you…BANG! It is the other Special Agent. He had kept his handgun cleaned, and the shot causes the enemy fire to abruptly cease. You are safe.
Every gun owner knows that is essential to keep firearms cleaned in order to avoid a dangerous buildup of lead and copper residue from shooting bullets. A failure to do so can actually lead to an explosion of the firearm, as described above.
